Discover the techniques of hand-building, decorating, and working on the pottery wheel in a course designed for beginners. Small group sessions, guided by experienced instructors, will help you master the entire process of creating a ceramic piece and gain the fundamental technical and artistic skills needed for independent work in ceramics.
In the course, you will work with hand-building techniques, the pottery wheel, and decorative methods. Each class is divided into two parts, one dedicated to hand-building and the other to wheel work, where you are guaranteed one full hour on the wheel. If you prefer, you may focus only on hand-building techniques. The course is intended for adults and is fully beginner-friendly. With the guidance of the instructor, you will go through a clear craft process that gradually leads you toward independent work. We work in stoneware, with firing temperatures up to 1225°C. After mastering the basic technical tasks, you can start working on your own ideas. You will learn hand-building techniques (coils, slabs, simple molds) and various decorating methods: relief, engobes, glazes, oxides, pastes, pigments, underglaze colors and pencils, and ceramic decals. Work on the wheel is learned gradually, from preparing the clay and centering to shaping the piece. You progress at your own pace, with continuous support from the instructor. It usually takes 3–4 cycles to master the basics, while for independent work we recommend around 5–6 cycles.
Enrollment is open all year round, and you can join at any time in a group with available spots. Groups have a maximum of 8 participants, and the work is individual and tailored to your pace and experience. You can pay per single session or in cycles of 4 or 8 sessions. Please note that the course is not designed to be completed in one cycle. Due to the nature of the process, it is often not possible to finish all started pieces within a single cycle. To complete your works, you can book an individual session after finishing a cycle if you are not continuing with a new one. There is no limit to the number of cycles, you decide how long you want to continue your training. For available dates, contact us or fill out the application form on our website. Reservations can be made up to two weeks in advance.
Everything you need for the course is provided and included in the price, so there is no need to bring or purchase anything extra. The studio is equipped with pottery wheels, work surfaces, tools, aprons, and shelves for storing works in progress. We use cream-white clay without chamotte (Vitgert, Germany), and for decoration, we offer a wide selection of glazes, engobes, pastes, oxides, pigments, underglaze and overglaze colors, pencils, and ceramic decals. The amount of material is limited per cycle (see the Studio Code of Conduct for details). Firing is done in two stages: bisque firing (900°C) and glaze firing (1225°C). We fire only works made during the course, up to the stage you reached in class. If you wish to try materials that are not part of the regular program, this can be arranged in advance with the instructor to match firing temperatures.

If something wasn’t clear, you might find the answer here
No. You can start the course at any time during the year, provided there is an available spot in the group. Although you work within a group setting, the program is individualized, and the instructor works with each participant separately, according to their level and pace. This dynamic offers many advantages. While you are learning the basics and first techniques, you can observe more advanced processes that other participants are working on, which can inspire and prepare you for the next stages. Each participant progresses at their own rhythm, supported by the instructor and an atmosphere that encourages creativity and the exchange of experience.
Creating a ceramic piece is a process that requires time and patience, so it’s not possible to finish all works within a single class or cycle. Each piece goes through several stages: shaping, drying, bisque firing, decoration, and finally, glaze firing. This process usually takes three to four weeks. For that reason, participants enrolled in a full cycle are offered an additional glazing session, so they can finish the pieces made during previous classes. If you prefer a shorter program that fits within one cycle, you can check out our Mini Course, designed specifically for that kind of experience.
Porcelain and decoration with precious metals such as gold and platinum are not part of the regular program and are not included in the course price. However, participants may, with prior agreement with the instructor, bring their own materials or small tools for use and decoration. Please note that using your own materials does not reduce the course fee. The course is primarily educational, and we provide high-quality clay suitable for all basic techniques. The skills you acquire during the course can later be applied to working with porcelain. As for gold or platinum decoration, it requires an additional firing process, which is not included in the standard course price.
